EOS Distinguished Teacher Lecture 2026: Chances and opportunities in Lingual Orthodontics

Professor Dirk Wiechmann (Germany), recipient of the 2026 Distinguished Teacher Award, presents an update on the evolution of Lingual Orthodontics, highlighting how many past concerns – such as patient comfort, bracket loss, finishing, and clinical handling – have largely been resolved. He explores how the extensive individualisation of modern lingual appliances, in both planning and manufacturing, has transformed Lingual Orthodontics and opened up new possibilities for contemporary orthodontic treatment.
